Basic Sponge Cake For Beginners...

Sponge cakes leavened with beaten eggs originated during the Renaissance, possibly in Spain. Let's try our hands on this simple and basic "Sponge Cake" recipe today.

Basic Sponge Cake For Beginners...
Ingredients-
1 cup Maida/All-Purpose Flour
1 teaspoons Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 cup Butter, softened
1 cup Sugar, powdered
4 Eggs
1 teaspoon Vanilla Essence
1/3 cup Milk, room temperature
Method-
Preheat the oven/otg to 400 degrees F/180 degrees C. Grease a suitable cake tray of your choice.
Sift the flour and baking powder into a medium bowl and set aside.
Beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. The mixture should be noticeably lighter in color. Add  eggs one at a time, allowing each egg to blend into butter mixture before adding the next. Beat in vanilla. Pour in the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing until just incorporated. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
Bake in the preheated oven/otg until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, for about 20-25 minutes. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn the cake out onto a plate to cool completely.
This cake can be served as it is, just dusted with powdered sugar. Alternately, cut the cake in half horizontally and sandwich the layers together with jam or custard.                                                      Note-
1) All the ingredients must be at room temperature.
2) Never open the door of the otg/oven to check your cake before the cook time set.
3) Try to combine all the wet and the dry ingredients within a min.
